Biography

Matthias Roeckl started out his career as a music journalist and reporter for German Public Radio in 1997. After a good 7 years of picking up all the right skills, he made the leap - 4000+ miles to the Big Apple. In 2004, Matthias decided to broaden his range and branch out into video journalism. And where did he begin? The only sensible starting point - the Hip Hop scene. Matthias dove head first into the birthplace of Hip Hop on the streets of New York City while capturing the quick risers and interviewing the pioneers. Timbaland, Swiss Beatz, Kool Herc., Chuck D. are a few names of artists he had the chance to work alongside.

Though, music journalism was just the beginning. After finding his home in Brooklyn, over the next ten years, Matthias went through finding the untold stories. He spent time exploring the underground food scene starting with the famous (now-busted) illegal lobster roll business to the lone-operation home-brewer and, onto the novelty coffee roaster. Soon, Matthias learnt that New York City had so much more to offer him than the underground food and music movement.

Following an all-American tattoo artist, trailing behind subway musicians, conversing with Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine in an Occupy Wall Street protest, covering President Obama’s electoral highlights in 2009 and 2013, catching Jon Oliver on the curb-side for a quick quote - these are just a few more of the plethora of projects Matthias has dipped his toes into since 2004.

To shine some light on Matthias' more recent projects, he’s been the go-to Producer for a handful of European outlets; Germany’s Bayerischer Rundfunk (ARD), Austrian TV (ORF) to name a few. Eventually, he also entered the “corporate world” of filming and went on to producing and filming for Fundraising Campaigns, Corporate Events, Internal Videos, Behind-the-Scenes videos and Fashion Editorial videos under his umbrella. The firms and agencies he filmed for range from the Health Industry, the World of Finance (Bank of Mitsubishi), Marketing (Dentsu Inc.), Non-Profit (American Heart Association) and Fashion (NY Fashion Week & Otto). As the projects continued to grow, Matthias finally realized, he needs a team and his own production company www.ifilmny.com was born.

And that’s why you’re here.
